After I was in a bad car accident, I was glad that I had Gap Insurance coverage. My car had been totaled and my insurance company was only going to give me fair market value for it. I owed more than what I would get, so my gap insurance policy would cover the rest. I ended up being able to pay off the car note so that I could get another car. I took out gap insurance on my new car since it had paid off so well before. I advise all of my friends and family to get this extra insurance coverage since you never know what might happen.
