Out of all cars in North America, the Smart car built by Mercedes is definately one of the smallest on the market. Does that make it the best subcompact car? From a size wise for being small, it wins and does actually have good interior size for most adults. No back seat exists however. With its rigid unibody it also has a good crash rating. One thing to note is it is also a relatively small horsepower car, but with its light weight is pretty nimble for city driving. It can go on the highway though. The definition of best is different for everyone, so drive it and see what you think.
