When I think of crystal awards shaped like a flame, I think of things like the Academy Awards. They are the kind of thing you expect to see at awards ceremonies that are very public, given to people who are extremely famous. So when I received one from my company simply for working for them for twenty-five years, I was surprised and pleased. It made me feel so appreciated! At that point, I realized that I was not just an expendable employee but a valuable member of the team. I told my boss that, and he said that was exactly what he had intended.
