Hygiene and Glucometer

February 15th, 2011 by admin

There are many factors that can affect the accuracy of reading from glucometers, and one of which is proper hygiene. It is not rare for diabetics to become shocked after getting a high meter reading, only to realize they have eaten finger foods or cleaned the house prior to testing.

Before you test your blood sugar levels with glucometers of any kind, make sure to wash your hands or forearm, depending on where you will take the blood sample, with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly. You should also make sure that you store your glucometer, test strips, lancing devices and other testing supplies in a clean dry place. Taking these steps will help ensure that your glucometers is giving you an accurate reading.
