Depression in Cancer Patients

Depression affects up to 25 percent of cancer patients. When diagnosed with cancer they encounter issues like money and legal matters, the fear of death, pain and suffering, big changes in life plans and lifestyle. Patients with terminal cancer feel that they are a burden to their family and feel they have let down their spouse and kids. Quality of life suffers whether caused by physical or psychological issues that accompany cancer.
A depressed person is harder to treat. Ones state of mind has a lot to do with how effective treatment can be. It is essential for cancer patients to have a more positive outlook and the will to live. Depression treatment coupled with cancer treatment will make the healing process more effective. It will at least give the patient a better outlook and attitude about his future.
