January 25th, 2011 by admin

Sandalwood, also known as Santalum, is the sweetest smelling of all the other Rainforest Plants. These plants are found in different regions of the world, including Hawaii, South America, Australia, Indonesia and India.

Santalum is grown on large scale and, harvested due to its medicinal importance. It is used for constructing decorative show pieces, furniture, for extracting perfumes and, its components are used for making incense and scented candles. Some species of Sandalwood rainforest plants have become extinct since 1996. Because of this vulnerability quotient, the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources) has become active in conserving these plants.
