My Family’s Public Records

March 28th, 2009 by admin

There’s this tradition that our family has owned this land since the 1700′s. Something service to the queen, at least that’s what I’ve been told. But, I decided that I wanted to see for myself. So, I searched the public records of the town and found the tax description of the family property. The earliest mention of our land talks about the land grant, but there’s no copy. So, I went to the country courthouse and searched their records.  And I found all sort of references to the land grant.  It wasn’t until I searched the state that I actually found the original grant with the name of my ancestor!
